CAMP QUALITY PUPPET SHOW Yesterday, all students saw a free puppet show by Camp Quality presenters. The show provided students with an insight into children with cancer, how they feel, why they look a little different and helped them to gain an understanding of the correct way to respond. Our students were very attentive and showed great empathy and care. |

OPERA HOUSE RECORDERS – WHAT AN EFFORT!
Last Friday, a group of 40 recorder players and some parents set off for a full day in Sydney. The students attended rehearsal at the Opera House before a brief break and a return for the full evening presentation. Imagine 400+ recorders all playing in unison with another 200 students on strings. It was a real treat that brought some parents to tears. Congratulations and well done to our great ambassadors and to Mrs Clifton for her determined preparation. A tired but very happy group returned to Jerra at 1 am and had the weekend to recover. Thanks to parents for their support of this event.

Canteen teamleaders and volunteers
it has come to my attention that the Enjo mop head has been misplaced. If
anyone has taken the mop head home to wash, could it please find it way back
to the canteen. This particular mop head makes cleaning alot easier and
faster. It would also cost alot to replace. Thank you.
Garlic bread has been taken off the menu because it does not fit into the
healthy canteen guidelines. We still have other hot food options such as
Smilies, and Nachos. We also offer baked goods like mini muffins.
A reminder regarding Allergies, if your child has an allergy could it be
clearly marked on the bag. Thank you
Roster Co-ordinator
Required
We
would like to find a replacement for this position as Anita is moving at the
end of the year. It is not a lot of hours each week and may suit someone
who has young children or can not volunteer on Wed, Thur, or Fri. There is
no need to come into the canteen and it can all be done from home. It would
be well suited to someone with good communication and organisation skills.
Job Description:
*Write a roster for each term and from time to time phone volunteers to
find a replacement for somebody who cannot make it.
* Give out information about the canteen to any new volunteers who may be
interested.
* Come to canteen meetings twice a term when available or give any
appropriate info to convenor prior to meeting.
* Liaise with volunteers and Team Leaders via email or phone to give new
info or updates from the committee.
* Forward the weekly roster to the
Jerra Journal Co-ordinator.
Please contact Anita for more information ph 0262998828 / 0413555835 or anita@rocks.cc

MULTICULTURAL PUBIC SPEAKING
Last week, the school final for this public speaking competition was held. We had 5 speakers who went to the District final held at Jerra yesterday for schools from Queanbeyan, Yass and Cooma.
Speakers were:
Years 3 – 4: Lara Wynd, Matthew Wilson, Rhea Laverock
Years 5 – 6: Kurran Sidhu, Rachael Albertson-Kill
We congratulate all students but especially Rhea and Rachael who were winners and now go on to the Regional final.
SOFTBALL GIRLS TO EDEN TOMORROW
The girls’ softball is off to Eden tomorrow for their fourth round of the state knockout. We wish them the very best of luck and skilful playing.
BOYS’ SOCCER
The boys’ soccer team also has a game next week in their knockout challenge. We wish them good luck as well.
EXCITING NEWS – BUSY TIMES AHEAD!
Last week was very exciting for the school. If I was a gambling person, I would say that we hit the jackpot!
1. Using the National Pride in Schools money, we have been granted 9 more IWBs for permanent rooms, artificial turf, softfall under playground equipment, painting of demountables, walkways classroom doors and some carpet – a total of $200 000
2. In the P21 BER Round 3, Jerrabomberra has been given a 13 metre extension to the Hall, 3 new brick classrooms to replace demountables, a new toilet block, covered walkway to the Computer/Music rooms and COLA over the quadrangle if money allows – total of $3 000 000.
3. Also, in the state budget it was announce that we would be getting our Administration Block upgrade – more room at last – and two Special Programs rooms
We are extremely pleased but…it will mean lots of disruption. We look forward to the first project.
|
|
SPEAKERS WIN! Rhea Laverock and Rachael Albertson-Kill were very excited winners of the MPPS District final held here yesterday. The shone through from groups of very competent speakers with a message to convey. Winners are grinners! |
LATENESS – PLEASE BE ON TIME!
If your child is late to school, it really gets them off to a bad start for their learning day. They have missed roll call and the start of their first lesson. PLEASE, aim to be here at school just before 9 a.m. It helps everyone!
SPECIAL GROUP PHOTOS
In the Office, we now have an album with special group photos – choirs, Library monitors, captains and sports captains, recorder, SRC. You are welcome to come and have a look and place an order if you wish. Cost is $15 per photo.
PARKING, THE BLUE LINE SYSTEM &THE SHOPS

Parents, please remember to stay with your cars, pull in behind others and keep moving to the head of the line near the small gate at the demountable exit. This is where we would best like to load children into cars.
PLEASE, remember that the shops need parking for their customers! Concerns have been expressed by the tenants and we ask that you do not park at the shops during this time for extended periods. It is their livelihood at risk. Thanks for the support and consideration.

P & C VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
Has your child been talking about the new Interactive Whiteboard in their classroom? Does your child bring home a reader each night? Or maybe you have seen the new landscaping that Mr Gil has been working so hard on. All these activities plus more the P&C have provided financial support to the school.
As well as doing fundraising throughout the year the P&C also relies on parents to pay their P&C voluntary contribution. Currently we have only had 25% of families pay the financial contribution.
If you would like to pay the voluntary contribution over the next few terms we can accommodate this as well or if you are not sure if you have paid your voluntary contribution please contact Jonica Burge - The voluntary contribution form is on the back of this newsletter.

CLOTHING POOL
JPS Beanies and Scarfs have been ordered and should be ready for sale at the Clothing Pool start of term 3.
Keep a look out for updates in the newsletter.
The clothing pool has been receiving a lot of second hand clothes that
have either been very soiled, faded or ripped.
Unfortunately we will not be accepting these items in the future and they will be returned to their owners.
Treat day - another successful day!! We hope all the children enjoyed their pies! I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people involved in the treat day. A treat day such as this takes a lot of volunteers to make it run smoothly. To our purchasing officer Michelle Palombi, Treasurer Veronica Wyatt, and Jessica Ting, the effort and time put in by these ladies is priceless, and treat days would be impossible without their tireless efforts. To all the volunteers that braved the cold weather we thank you very much, to the following Antje Wilson, Kelli Youngs, Kerri Arnold, Laura Walsh, Sash Hadden, Lena Elwin, Audra Martin, Veronica Mabbut, Valerie Keefe, Mary Coady, Meagan Taylor, Tracey Longfield. Ladies you filled 400 pie and drink orders, and we Thank you very much.
The Canteen sub-committee will be meeting this Thursday 25th June at 1:30pm, in the room behind the office. Come along and discuss all things canteen, hear about the new menu, help discuss and decide canteen policy and procedure.
On the 12th June (last Friday) the canteen was extremely under staffed, and as a result we were 10 minutes late getting the lunch orders out. For this we apologise, and I would like to say this is an isolated incident and won’t happen again, but with the decline in volunteers I cannot guarantee this. Thank you to Cath and Karen, you both worked so hard, I hope this doesn’t turn you off canteen. A thank you also goes to Ms Croke for helping to pack orders. To the year six girls who came in and started counter service, girls you should be very proud of yourselves, you showed great maturity and initiative, and coped under a lot of pressure.

HAVEAGOODWEEK!!
Jerrabomberra Public School Canteen is back on-line!
The menu is now on-line so you can order your lunch from home, work, or wireless laptop! No more waiting in queue’s at the canteen in the morning or trying to find enough coins. Do your internet lunch order using School24!
What is School24 you ask??? It is a web-based school canteen menu processing system (formerly known as SCaMPS). It provides an alternative to the traditional lunch order process, and it’s super easy to use. You can organise a lunch order at a time that suits you – night or day, days or even weeks in advance. There has been a fantastic response already from our families who used SCaMPS last year.
Want to have a go? Here's what to do………
STEP ONE:
You will need to register your family with School24. Click on the following URL below to open the Registration Form, and then complete all fields.
www.scamps.com.au/online_canteen_registration01.asp
A window will appear requesting your School ID. Type 2525963
Another window opens for you to register your family details. Complete all fields and SUBMIT. Your login and password will appear and you can log in to School24.
Note: It is preferable that the login and password details are kept to yourself. Sharing this information with your children is your decision. School24 or the Jerrabomberra Public School Canteen cannot be held responsible for any lunch orders made on your behalf.
STEP TWO:
Click on the button FAMILY SETUP and add your child/ren's details. Click the SUBMIT button for each child. You can make fun profiles for each child. Only you can see them, so go wild!
STEP THREE:
Add some money to your account using internet banking! You can top up your School24 account at any time. Click on the button MY ACCOUNT to find the Canteen banking details.
IMPORTANT: When you get the receipt for the funds transfer, copy & paste this in an email to widury.bingwa@three.com.au (Subject: School24 Jerra Top up Request) to have your top-up validated. Then CLOSE WINDOW.
TIP!!: So that you don't have to keep topping up your School24 account, estimate your child/ren's requirements until the end of term.
FINISHED:
At this stage you cannot see your child/ren's name or items to order for lunch. This will become available once your account has funds credited to it.
How will School24 make money?
School24 was developed by a clever NSW school canteen parent volunteer who finances the site by charging a voluntary family fee each term. The JPS Canteen does not charge any additional fee for using this service.
HELP?!?!?!?!?!
Check out the informative School24 website (http://www.scamps.com.au/default.asp) for more details, including their Privacy Policy. If you have any difficulties with this process please email widury.bingwa@three.com.au (Subject: School24 Jerra Help Request)
Families with existing accounts please update your contact details or contact Widury for login details.
Have fun!
Voluntary financial contributions from families allow the P&C to support a range of important activities at the school. The P&C will work with the Principal to identify the priorities for the use of these funds. In previous years the contributions have been used to purchase playground seating, computing equipment, and classroom resources such as maths equipment and home readers.
For 2009, the P&C has set an annual voluntary contribution rate of $100 for one child and $150 per family with two or more children. Any additional contributions would be welcomed. Please return the following form to the school with payment. Thanks.

GIRLS’ SOFTBALL TEAM – OUT AT LAST!
Last Tuesday proved to be the last game for the girls in the Jerra State Knockout team. They played Wagga PS and went down by one run 11-10. It was a great game and the girls fought back from being down at the beginning of the match but, alas, just one run from victory. All girls played to their ability and are to be commended on their progress with skills development over the year. Well done, girls and also to Ms Wilson who has provided some excellent support with the team and training. Maybe next year!
SO, WHO DID KISS THE PIG?
Mr Gil, Mrs Ellis, Mr Christopher and Ms Cowling did an amazing job. They raised about $1200 all on their own in an effort to avoid kissing the pig. However, Ms Cowling really did need to try just a little bit harder as she was just $6 behind Mr Christopher! And she did kiss the pig ……. but so did Mr Christopher! Thanks teachers for being such good sports and to Mr Ellis who was the big pink pig wandering around the fete.

Ms Cowling looks after her newest friend as the other teachers look on very happily!

|
The Fete was opened by Mayor Tim Overall, Cath Croxford, David Furner & Katrina Chisholm. Congratulations to Katrina and Cath on their amazing commitment and the success of the Fete!
Isobel, Rhiannon, Laura and Tiffany amongst all the donated boxes last week at the sorting centre.
